Badia Prataglia

The origin of Badia prataglia can be traced back to the year 986, year of foundation of the Abbey of S. Maria and S. Benedetto of prataglia by some Benedictine monks coming from Montecassino, under the power of the Bishop of Arezzo, Elemperto, of which was personal possession. The Benedictine monks found in the region below the Monte acuto or Monte cucco (m. 1332), covered with meadows – from which Pratalia – a solitary but fertile place, rich in water, suitable for sustenance of the monastic community. From the foundation map of the Abbey we know that a large part of the territory belonged to the monks was covered by high vegetation.

Badia prataglia, a climatic resort immersed in the lush green of the homonymous forest, has always been one of the most prestigious and equipped tourist centers of Casentino. The tourist vocation of the country, already present since the end of 1800, has gradually evolved and structured to the expectations of a modern demand for tourist services, at the same time establishing a relationship with the surrounding forest, which has always seen the need to protect and enhance nature prevail.
