Bibbiena

The first settlements in the territory probably date back to the Etruscan Age, although the date of foundation of the town is located in 979 A.D. During the struggle between Guelphs (Florentines) and Ghibellines (Arezzo), Bibbiena sided with the latter. After the Ghibelline defeat in the Battle of Campaldino, Bibbiena suffered a ruinous siege of eight days by the Florentines, who conquered the city and plundered it.
