Capolona

The municipality extends on the slopes of the pratomagno towards south and on the right bank of the Arno and historically coincides with the domains of the ancient Abbey of San Gennaro at campoleone. In reality capolona is a name that identifies not so much a center in particular, as a whole area, having changed during the centuries the location of the chief town; after the abandonment of the Abbey, located near the current town of Castelluccio, the territory was united to other communities (in particular with subbiano, on the other side of the Arno) until the Napoleonic domination. In 1808 it was established the district of capolona, bibbiano and belfiore and the town hall was in Castelluccio, the nearest center to the ancient Abbey and acquired the name of capolona.
