Monti Rognosi Natural reserve

The area of the reserve is home to numerous arboreal, shrub and herbaceous plant species. The rugged nature of the mountain territory, the frequent presence of outcrops rocks and steep slopes determine tree formations often sparse of the genus Pinus and rarely cedrus. It was not by chance that these arboreal essences were chosen during the first half of the 20th century to reforest these areas, which were often bare or gariga. The most common species are Pinus pinaster and Pinus nigra which show an extreme adaptability to the arid soil, so much to be naturalized by now occupying a large part of the territory. Below the extensive pine forests, in the most sparse vegetal Erica arborea favored by the local arid climate and acidic soil.
