Figline medieval Walls

The first mention of the castle of Fegghine date back to 1000 a.d. This castle would lie on a hill, in the area of the current San Romolo. The inhabitants went down several times in the valley below and founded the great forum of Figline, a kind of market. Over the years, the small town population grew up to become a small town.
Among the many events of those centuries remembers trying to Fiesole in 1167 to transfer the bishopric in Figline, in a place away from Florence’s enemy, who was in a period of expansion.
Since 1973 in early September are organized tournaments with the participation of athletes of various districts figlinesi (door Aretina, Florentine gate, Porta San Francesco, Sienese gate). The palio has undergone several reorganizations over the years. Currently the races are: historical representation with the wagons built by districts, tug of war, race the big tub, palio del carretto and finally the palio horse where the Knights in up to five seconds have to travel 40 meters and Center with a spear a 6 cm diameter ring which is suspended on a frame at 3 meters high. During the duration of the event are organized concerts and jousting.
